Dr. Derick Pasternak has consulted in the Middle East, India, Asia-Pacific, Eastern and Western Europe, and Latin America. He established the Dubai office of Joint Commission International in 2006 and managed it for three years, covering the Middle East, North Africa, and India.

Dr. Pasternak is the author of several articles and electronic publications on the subject of health care quality and medical management. He actively participated in the development of the World Health Organization's standards for HIV/AIDS services. Dr. Pasternak was Clinical Associate Professor at the Medical Schools of the University of New Mexico and University of Illinois; he was also Clinical Professor of Healthcare management at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
