JCI Accreditation Standards for Long Term Care, 2nd Edition Field Review Underway

Monday, December 05 2022

Joint Commission International (JCI) has begun development of the 2nd edition of the JCI Accreditation Standards for Long Term Care, scheduled for publication 1 July 2023, with an effective date of 1 January 2024. As part of standards development, we are seeking input from accredited organizations on the proposed new standards during the field review period. The field review is a critical component of JCI standards development that allows for accredited long term care organizations, subject matter experts, and selected stakeholders to provide recommendations on how new and proposed accreditation standards impact resident care, quality improvement, and resident safety.

JCI is pleased to recognize your organization’s continuing dedication to quality resident care through accreditation by extending an invitation to representatives from your organization to participate in the field review of the JCI Accreditation Standards for Long Term Care, 2nd Edition. The field review is open from 05 December 2022 – 26 December 2022.

To obtain a full understanding of organizations’ experiences with the standards, we request that organizations select 1-2 individuals with direct knowledge of the standards and accreditation process. We suggest that these individuals be the Chief Operating Officer and Accreditation Coordinator, or similar role, as these staff typically have a broad technical understanding of the standards.

The JCI Accreditation Standards for Long Term Care, 2nd Edition has been reorganized to group concepts under chapter names that align with the chapter names in other JCI Accreditation programs, such as the hospital and ambulatory programs. The standards have also been updated to account for advances in long term care and to promote quality and resident safety.

For your reference, an outline is provided with the proposed new and significantly changed standards along with the specific questionnaire that we request field review participants to complete.

The survey questionnaire may also be accessed separately through this link.

We would be grateful for your response by 26 December 2022, and we thank you in advance for your participation.
