JCI Survey Process Innovation News

Added on 10 March 2014 in General News, Recent News, Press Releases

Most Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals, including academic medical centers, are aware that JCI’s innovative new 5th Edition Hospital Standards are effective 1 April 2014. Other innovations and changes to the JCI accreditation process may not be as clear and are clarified below.

After the 5th Edition Standards were published in fall 2013, JCI management planned and implemented its educational plan on the new requirements for its surveyors, consultants, and accredited organizations. At that time, JCI realized that planned modifications to the survey process—such as continuous accreditation, unannounced surveys, off-site document review—would benefit from further testing.

As a result, these modifications will not be implemented now. The survey process modifications will continue to be tested in 2014 with potential implementation in 2015. JCI will keep its customers informed of any future changes.

Please contact the JCI Accreditation team at with questions.
