News and Notes from Derick Pasternak, Managing Director, Middle East

Hi from Dubai!

For the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of serving Middle East health care organizations by assisting their efforts to reduce risks and improve health outcomes for patients. These organizations include regional ministries of health, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), hospitals, laboratories and home care agencies.

With each day, new challenges and experiences arise, and I would like to share these experiences with you virtually as I write from my desk at JCI’s Middle East office, located in Dubai.  I plan to share some best practices, hot topics, trends, upcoming events, and what JCI is doing to improve patient safety within the Middle East.

Each month, I will post a short article.  Some of the topics I’ve been brainstorming include the unbelievable expansion of health care in Gulf countries and the related issues surrounding building construction and renovation; physician credentialing and qualifications; and, counterfeit medications, to name a few. I invite you to also share your experiences, challenges and anything that comes to mind.  In fact, I would like to end this entry with an effort to get to know you a little better: what topics, trends and best practices are you interested in reading about?  What challenges do you face?
