Practice Leader, Medication Safety
 

As Practice Leader for Medication Safety, Jeannell Mansur provides leadership to clients on medication system design and enhancement, JCI accreditation preparation, technology implementation, and medication safety process improvement.

 

Dr. Mansur has extensive experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice, including clinical, operational and management. She has published and presented extensively in the areas of medication safety and pharmacy operations improvement. Dr. Mansur has consulted throughout the US and internationally in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. 

 

Dr. Mansur was Director of Pharmaceutical Services for 12 years at the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was responsible for creating a new model for pharmacy practice involving robot technology and unit-based pharmacists. As a long-time advocate for medication safety, she formed and co-chaired the Medication Safety Task Force at the University of Chicago Hospitals. While at the University of Chicago Hospitals, Dr. Mansur also served as Clinical Director of Inpatient Cardiac Nursing Services for seven years as part of a three-person leadership team, and later as Executive Director for Pharmacy Informatics, where she was involved in the planning, building and implementation of EpicRx, the future CPOE system.

 

Dr. Mansur recently authored a chapter on pediatric medication safety for an upcoming book entitled Pediatric Patient Safety in the Emergency Department,  co-published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Joint Commission Resources, expected for release in late Fall 2009.  


Dr. Mansur received her bachelor of science in pharmacy from the University of Michigan and her doctor of pharmacy degree from Wayne State University.  Dr. Mansur has held faculty positions with the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy and the Chicago College of Pharmacy at Midwestern University. She has served as Vice-Chairman of the Institutional Review Board for the University of Chicago. Within the University Health-Systems Consortium, she has served as Vice-Chairman of the Integrated Technologies for Safe Medication Use Committee and on the Executive Council for Pharmacy. She has also trained with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement on systems approaches to enhancing medication safety.
