John C. Wocher, MHA, FACHE

With more than 45 years of experience in the health care field and more than 20 years as a senior health care executive in Japan, John Wocher has travelled and lectured extensively in Asia. He had a 30 year career as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the United States Navy and worked in a wide variety of ambulatory care and inpatient facilities. His expertise includes facility management and safety, governance, leadership and direction, staff qualifications and education, and quality improvement and patient safety.
Mr. Wocher previously served as the Director for Administration of the US Navy Hospital, Yokosuka Japan and as Chief Operating Officer of the Kameda Medical Center in Japan, which is a 925-bed private teaching hospital in Kamogawa City with an ambulatory care volume of 3,500 patients per day. He currently serves as Kameda Medical Center’s Executive Vice President, and is the Director for International Patient Services. Mr. Wocher has mentored more than 20 students from the University of Iowa’s Graduate Program in Hospital and Health Service Administration at the Kameda Medical Center in a three-month summer internships and is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Iowa. He is the author of numerous articles and two books (one in Japanese and one in Korean) on the subject of the Japanese health care system and is a noted authority on this subject.
Mr. Wocher received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Maryland in government and Asian studies, and received his master’s degree in health care administration (MHA) from Baylor University. He has held faculty appointments at Munster University in Munster, Germany as well as the Frankfurt School of Management and Finance in Frankfurt, Germany, teaching in their executive MBA program for health care executives. Mr. Wocher is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
