Shakil Ahmad has 16 years of experience in the field of international health care management and quality and brings extensive clinical and administrative experience as a specialist in implementing quality systems in hospitals and corporate headquarters. He has a diverse background in numerous clinical settings, such as the emergency department, internal medicine and health care management. 

 

Dr. Ahmad has held various positions as a quality improvement physician, hospital administrator, head of medical staff performance and review, senior quality specialist and quality manager. During his tenure with a regulatory health authority in United Arab Emirates (UAE), he was responsible for overseeing JCIA accreditation of two of its hospitals from a strategic perspective and implementing regulatory policies and standards. He also facilitated the implementation of EFQM model which resulted in the health authority placing third for a Government Excellence Award in 2007. 

 

Dr. Ahmad is currently working in a government-owned company with corporate colors, which is responsible for operating all government hospitals and clinics in one of the Emirates of UAE. 

 

Prior to his tenure in Local Health Authority and Health Services Company, he worked in Saudi Arabia assisting a private hospital to implement JCIA accreditation standards as well as provide health care services to Saudi Aramco employees.

 

Dr. Ahmad has also chaired or presented at numerous domestic and international conferences including the ISQUA Conference in London, the International Quality Conference in Muscat, Oman, and the Middle East Quality Conference in Dubai.

 

Dr. Ahmad is currently a resident of Abu Dhabi, UAE. He received his bachelor’s in medicine and surgery from Magadh Medical College in India, his diplomate in internal medicine from Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London and master’s in health care management from the University of Oxford Brookes, Oxford. Currently, he is working toward a doctorate in health care management. Dr. Ahmad is also a certified lead quality auditor, operational auditor and EFQM assessor and is a certified professional in quality management and a team leader.

Dr. Ahmad’s professional affiliations include the National Association for Healthcare Quality & Institute of Healthcare Management.  He is an alumnus of Imperial College of Medicine and Technology, London.
