Accreditation for Hospitals Standards Initiated in 1999, the hospital accreditation program was designed to evaluate all the functions of acute care hospitals, medical and psychiatric, including any related out-patient clinics and clinical laboratories. The program is equally applicable to public and private hospitals. JCI accreditation is internationally recognized as the premier credential for hospitals.
