The Practicum Schedule
The typical Practicum is a five day program. Although each of our program agendas are different, in general, the following pattern explains what you can expect from a typical practicum:
Day 1: The JCI Process and Standards- Learn about the process JCI uses to develop and assess compliance. Explore JCI’s patient centered and organizational management standards, while also discussing the most difficult standards to meet.
Day 2: The Survey Process- Learn how the accreditation survey works through lectures and workshops with JCI experts.
Day 3: The Survey and Continual Improvement- Deepen your understanding of the accreditation process by viewing a survey demonstration in a local organization. When not participating in the survey, JCI will conduct small workshops to discuss survey case studies and learn to use the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) tool-a powerful way to proactively reduce risk.
Day 4: The Survey and International Patient Safety Goals- Hear what other organizations that have achieved JCI accreditation have learned about the process. Then, discuss the International Patient Safety Goals and the process of continual improvement. Finally, work in small groups to learn to use the Root Cause Analysis tool to understand and eliminate failures in your system.
Day 5: Tools and Techniques- Learn about the true costs and benefits of the JCI process, and discover the best ways to begin your accreditation or reaccreditation effort.
