(OAK BROOK, Ill., USA - June 16, 2008) Health care leaders from more than 20 countries will gather in Chicago this summer at Joint Commission International's (JCI) second Advanced Practicum for Accreditation, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. Global experts will discuss key issues, and participants will have the opportunity to visit hospitals that are recognized innovators in health care and learn about standards designed to improve the safety and quality of patient care.
JCI's Advanced Practicum for Accreditation, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety will be held July 14-18 at the Embassy Suites Hotel - Downtown Chicago. This year, participants can choose either a Beginner's or Advanced educational track. The Beginner's Track is most appropriate for those who have never been through a JCI accreditation survey. The advanced track will be most useful for those who have a solid understanding of JCI's hospital standards, and are interested in exploring solutions to specific problems. Both tracks will include a simulated survey at a Chicago-area hospital. These visits will feature meetings with executive staffs, tours of facilities, and discussions of patient safety and improvement initiatives.
"Whether new to the accreditation process or a veteran, this conference is an advanced exploration of accreditation strategies, quality improvement methodologies and patient safety initiatives," says Karen H. Timmons, president and chief executive officer, JCI. "It is ideal for health care professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of these issues in a collaborative learning environment."
The Advanced educational track will offer a series of small-group workshops that allow participants to collaborate with JCI experts on areas of common concern and develop solutions to persistent problems.
For organizations that are seeking their first accreditation, the Beginner's educational track will focus on the following topics:
-
-
patient focused standards;
-
-
organizational management standards; and
-
-
the tracer methodology and root cause analysis.
Presentations at the Advanced Practicum will be given by Joint Commission president Mark Chassin, M.D., M.P.P., M.P.H.; JCI president and CEO Karen Timmons; and JCI chief medical officer David Jaimovich, M.D. Discussions will focus on patient safety-related issues such as infection control, medication management, and performance measurement. The Advanced Practicum will also include opportunities for interaction with JCI consultants and educators.
Cost of the practicum is $3,000 United States Dollars (USD), with a 10 percent discount available for five or more participants from the same organization. For more information or to register, visit the JCI
