JCI Accreditation News: New Rules, Policy, and Protocol Effective 1 January 2009
The Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Committee has approved several changes to its Hospital Accreditation Decision Rules, Focused Survey Policy, and Threat to Health and Safety Protocol, all of which are effective for all JCI–accredited organizations starting 1 January 2009. The entire revised Rules, Policy, and Protocol are available for free download in electronic format below.
Joint Commission International At-Risk for Denial of Accreditation Policy
A new administrative classification of organizations, At-Risk for Denial of Accreditation was also approved to enhance the rigor of the accreditation process. This classification results from lack of compliance with the decision rules as well as noncompliance with significant accreditation policies and procedures such as:
• JCI Threat to Health and Safety Protocol
• Eligibility Requirements
• Sentinel Event Policy
• Information Accuracy and Truthfulness
• Reporting Requirements Between Surveys (see your accreditation or certification manual for details).
The organization will be notified of the conditions related to their placement in this At-Risk classification. A required Focused Survey will be used to evaluate the condition(s).
