2010 JCI Executive Briefings Feature Three Events, Three Accreditation Programs Covered

Locations and dates for three 2010 Joint Commission International (JCI) Executive Briefings have been set, according JCI executive director, International Accreditation, Ann Jacobson, R.N.

Highlights include the following:

► Three Briefings are scheduled in three regions, up from two in 2007–2009 and one annually prior to 2007. That means three
opportunities for JCI–accredited organizations to attend the Briefings at site close to home.
► Ambulatory care and laboratory curricula are planned for the first time. Prior to 2010, only a hospital curriculum was
    presented.

Jacobson says the Briefings will all be held in September, a month earlier than usual, for an important reason— the release of Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards for Hospitals, Fourth Edition (see the article elsewhere in this issue. “[Scheduling the briefings earlier] will allow organizations more time to become compliant with the new standards before the 1 January 2011 ‘effective’ date,” says Jacobson. Standards are “effective” 6 months after publication, after which all on-site surveys, including focused visits based on shortfalls found in prior surveys, are conducted using those standards.

Additionally, JCI publications will be available at a discounted rate at all of the 2010 Hospital Executive Briefings.

Topics to be presented at all three briefings include the following:

► Measurement Strategies for Benchmarking and Accreditation
    —The JCI Integrated Measurement Strategy
—International Cardiac Benchmarking (ICSB) Project: Early Findings
—Value and Impact of Accreditation: Early Findings from the Brandeis University Study
