Accreditation Manuals:

JCI Accreditation Standards for the Care Continuum

Joint Commission International (JCI) is no longer offering this product for sale and will cease surveying organizations on the care continuum standards after 30 June 2012. Instead, JCI has published two manuals for its newest accreditation programs—home care and long term care—in January 2012 for use in on-site surveys starting 1 July 2012.

Home care and long term care are the newest JCI accreditation programs, but their standards were derived from what were JCI’s care continuum accreditation program standards, which were first published in 2003. Those standards were designed to address the care of individuals with chronic diseases, those undergoing rehabilitation needs, and those at the end of life. The care continuum standards were organized around providing care in a wide range of settings, from the individual’s home to long term care facilities, to assisted living settings. Although the processes used in each setting may be somewhat similar, the missions and services provided in each of those settings were different. Therefore, the decision was made to develop individual standards for each setting, beginning with long term care and home care.
